Professor Ojo Heads FUTA Centre for Space Research and Application

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure, (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, has approved the appointment of Professor Joseph Sunday Ojo of the Department of Physics as Director of the Institution’s Centre for Space Research and Applications (CESRA), for a period of two (2) years effective January 6th, 2025.
Professor Ojo’s assignment as Director, CESRA, includes giving prominence to space research and applications in line with the mission of the university, identifying technological problems and needs of the society for the purpose of space research, consultancy services on space research and applications, among others.
Professor Ojo, had his elementary education at the St. Mary’s Primary School, Omuo-Ekiti and Omuo-Ore Secondary School, Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti State and Ondo State College of Basic Sciences, Ikare Akoko between 1983 and 1988.
His quest for higher education took him to the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State where he had his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Science Technology in 1991 and thereafter proceeded to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) where he bagged a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Physics Electronics (1998), Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Communication Physics (2004) and crowned it with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Communication Physics in 2009.
Ojo started his working career as a Training Manager with Bagco Northern Super Bags Company, Kano State between 1999 and 2000 before joining the services of the Federal University of Technology, Akure in October 2004 as an Assistant Lecturer. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor in October 2019.
A thorough-bred Futarian, Professor Ojo has extended his teaching acumen to the Department of Physics, Ekiti State University (EKSU); Department of Physics, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State; Department of Physics, Federal University of Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State; Department of Physics, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State; Department of Physics, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State; Department of Physics, University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State; Department of Physics, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State; the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State and College of Education, (now Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology) Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State as external examiner at different times.
Similarly, Professor Ojo has served meritoriously outside the University as General Secretary, International Union of Radio Science, Nigeria; Editor-in-Chief, Nigerian Journal of Pure and Applied Physics (NJPAP); Editorial Board Member of JURNAL ILMU FISIKA, Department of Physics at Universitas Andalas, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia, among several others. He has also served and still serving as Chairman and member of a number of committees of the University.
Professor Ojo belongs to many professional bodies and has attended several conferences where he presented papers.
